Now Through May 3rd, and returning June 15, 2015!
By: A. Finn
Hot off the stage for the inaugural season of The Palace Theater in the Dells comes a showcase of the familiar melodies of the late Johnny Cash. Directed by Warren Scott Friedman with John Foley as the musical director, the five piece ensemble recreates the music that captured the hearts of many diehard Cash fans. While it is not an impersonator, like the last show produced by The Palace, it is a reinvigoration of a bygone era of song. Featuring the talents of Kendra Jo Brook, Nyssa Duchow, Justin Droegemueller, Jake Williamson, Davey Rosenberg, and Robert Kitchens, Ring of Fire creates a timeline of Cash’s life through his music. From the tragic death of his younger brother to his first day working for Sam Phillips, the revue highlights how Cash’s personal life impacted his career. Although the show itself is more of a musical revue, the multifaceted performers transition between instruments and trade off playing June Carter, Cash, and even Phillips makes an appearance. Bringing back favorites such as “Jackson”, “Folsom Prison Blues”, and (of course) “Ring of Fire”, the show is a vintage touch to the summer’s lineup. Ring of Fire will finish out its initial run on May 3rd and start up again for the summer on June 15th.
